Please remember THEIR fear this 4th of JULY!

Dog firework warning with Timi Romolini for Timi Talks at PawChicFireworks may be a joy for us, but they can be terrifying for many pets. I would like to remind pet parents that the flashing lights, and more importantly, the loud sounds of fireworks can frighten (if not terrify) our four legged friends sending them in to a frenzy, and causing themselves harm. If you do choose to have your beloved(s) outside during the displays, please remain by their side to provide assurance and comfort and to ensure that they don’t cause themselves injury. A frightened pet is NOT funny and not something to laugh off. It is important to remember that there can be consequences to the dog’s health as well as his safety and the safety of those around him/her. Equally important to remember is that pets left alone, whether tied down or roaming freely outside, are vulnerable to stray fireworks or sparklers carelessly thrown by children and adults alike. Even more frightening are the warped individuals who prey on innocent animals taking pleasure in scaring them and/or causing them harm (burns, disfigurement and worse) with rockets and other firecrackers. The preference would be to keep pets indoors where they’ll find security behind the walls of their home; however, keep in mind that they may still react to the loud booms outside. Dogs may become disorientated when in fright mode (loud thunder also creates anxiety) and if they get loose, many pets may run and find themselves lost. Shelters in every city get a slew of stray dogs after the 4th celebration. Pet parents are shocked to find that their beloved pooch may have crashed thru a window in fear…or jumped through a screen. A bit of precaution can go a long way. Leaving “white noise” (TV, A/C or other) on may assist in masking the offending celebration; and it’s been recommended to keep curtains closed. Remember to keep all unused fireworks out of reach to prevent your pet from chewing on the enticing “toy”, and be sure all debris from any home displays are properly cleared and disposed of. Please, do make a conscience effort to keep all your family members safe while enjoying the forth! With your pets taken care of, we say: “Rock on with your rockets dear homo-sapiens, and have a Happy Independence Day!”
