We’re experiencing a heatwave in California this week, which increased my frustration with car manufacturers’ ridiculous inability (or sheer laziness) of not producing vehicles where the A/C is just as powerful in the back, as it is the front…so I came up with a solution! I have a COMPACT 4 door sedan and despite it’s small size…the air conditioning STILL does not offer my boys adequate relief in the back. Even with all the windows closed and the A/C blasting on full power - car units simply do NOT cool the entire vehicle properly. Not only are the tiny vents manufacturers put in the back useless, the fans from the front unit don’t quite push through to the back well enough. This is where my solution comes in, and I wanted to share it with other aware parents (canine or human - heck, any passenger will appreciate some added air!).

I took a square, battery operated fan (in which I use rechargeable D batteries to save money from repurchasing mounds of new batteries) and wedged it on the center (front) console between the driver and passenger seat. I then aim the A/C vents toward the center of the car and BINGO! The fan sucks the cold air in and redistributes it into the back seat area where my canine children can get some much needed relief from the 100 degree weather! Temperatures don’t have to reach 100 degrees to benefit your little ones though. 80 degree temps seem like a hundred to them so, it’s a beneficial aid all summer. To add to the boys enjoyment, I can now leave the windows down for them to pop their nose in and out at will. Even with warm air penetrating the car, the direct blast of cold air now provides them with the relief they need. HAPPY MOTORING! WARNING: remember that even though a fan will certainly help, it is NOT permission for you to leave the car off - even in the shade with windows cracked - while you run in somewhere and your babies are trapped in a sweltering enclosure. The fan alone will only circulate HOT air. This trick ONLY works and ONLY produces great benefit, offering relief, if it has COLD air to circulate and cool off your babies.
